Summer is over, and it is once again time for school. And when we say school, recess and hanging out with your friends are not the only things that come to mind. Once again, as students, you will be bombarded with different kinds of examination—from quizzes to final exams. In this regard, you will definitely need luck as well as some tips on how you can focus more on reviewing and acing your tests.

  • Right before hitting the hay, try studying for a few minutes. According to studies, during sleep, the brain strengthen new memories, so there is a good chance you can remember whatever you reviewed before going to sleep.
  • Reading up on your notes after waking up is also a good study habit because the brain still has lots of room to absorb new information in the morning.
  • Memorizing and reviewing in chunks can also help. A relatively new learning technique called “spaced repetition” is a proven technique to remember the things you have to write down once you’re taking your exam. This involves breaking up information into small chunks and reviewing them consistently over a long period of time.
  • Because it helps make the information more meaningful, making a narrative out of the details you need is also a great way to remember.
  • Try reviewing in different places every day. Research suggests every time we move around, we force the brain to form new associations with the same material, so it becomes a stronger memory—enabling us to better remember the information.
  • Study different materials in one sitting. Not sticking to one topic helps prepare us to use the right strategy for finding the solution to a problem.
  • Challenge yourself every after studying. Mock exams are one of the best ways to prepare for the real deal.
  • Write, write, and write! According to studies, we store information more securely when we write it out by hand than when we type it.
  • Aside from putting your pen and paper to good use, you should also try reading information out loud. This helps you mentally store the information in two ways: seeing it and hearing it.
  • Of course, you should also give yourself a break. A piece of your favorite chocolate bar, a walk around the block, or a few minutes of surfing online is a great reward at the end of every review session. Taking regular breaks are also proven means of boosting productivity and improving your ability to focus on a single task.
  • Stay alert! A sip of your favorite caffeine-filled coffee or tea will do well.
