Your child’s learning is not only limited on his or her academic performance. Most of us think that academic performance is the benchmark of our child’s learning progress. We tend to overlook the fact that numerous kinds of intelligence actually exist, such as emotional, physical, artistic, and social.

We only focus, however, on improving our child’s academic performance. We send them to the best schools, hire tutors, and buy them an insane number of books, which they don’t actually read and enjoy. Academic excellence is important, but learning must not stop there. A child must understand that he must go beyond what is taught in school and written in books; his or her parents must do the first move. Parents must set a limit to their children’s studying period. Parents must not aim to exhaust their children’s mental health. Here are two things that you can immediately start doing:

Do not spoil the weekends. Weekends are probably the most loved days of the week. This is the time when students do other things than just writing verses or solving mathematical problems. Therefore, parents must aim to make these weekends unforgettable. They must ensure that the activities that the family will be doing, will refresh everyone’s mind. In this way, children will have fun and enjoy your presence and the leisure time; hence, they will be readier to go back to school on Monday.

Do not pressure your children. We all hate being pressured. We all want to spend our time in the way we think we should. Children also feel pressure. Therefore, we must be wary about our expectations. It’s okay to have an expectation or maybe a standard, but to put too much pressure for your child to achieve that expectation may be unhealthy. Parents must learn to empathize. Put yourself in your child’s place, see how he or she sees the world, and learn from it. Use it. In this way, your child will be more open to you. He or she will trust you more, because you see the world the same way that he or she does.
